CHILD CUSTODY & VISITATION ATTORNEY IN COLUMBIA, MISSOURI
Protecting Your Children’s Best Interests Throughout the Divorce
As parents, we want what is best for our children. We are involved in their lives. We make time to attend parent-teacher conferences, chauffeur them to sports practice, review homework and help them study for tests. Spending time with our kids is important.
Children Parents who have always lived together may have a difficult time adjusting to the changes after divorce. Parents who have never lived together may struggle with finding time to keep both parents actively involved in the child’s life.
Regardless of your situation, if you are working through a child visitation or custody matter, it is important to work with an attorney who can give you the legal representation you need. When you contact my firm – Mingus Law Office – that is exactly what you will find. I have 18 years of experience helping parents effectively resolve their parenting matters.
Understanding the Priorities in a Missouri Parenting Plan
When I meet with parents, one of the first things I do is ask about the involvement each parent has had in the child’s life. Have both parents been involved with raising the kids? Who has been the primary caretaker? Are both parents committed to protecting the best interests of the children?
In Missouri, the court prefers joint legal custody. Additionally, the courts want both parents to have the opportunity to spend time with their children – called physical custody – if the children are safe. This means both parents will likely be allowed to spend a significant amount of time with their children if they desire. I work closely with parents to help them create a parenting that works for them and their children.
